What can the Catenians offer you ... and what can you offer to other members?
| |
There are many benefits of membership which include the opportunities to (1) Mix with other Catholic laymen in business, commerce, education, public service and the professions; (2) Meet socially and draw support from other Catholic laymen with similar values; (3) Become part of a close yet international community that offers lifelong support and friendship to members and their families; (4) Enjoy interesting and varied social events for members and their families; (5) Receive spiritual and practical support in times of difficulty or need; (6) Join with other brothers in golf tournaments and other sporting activities (these are often open to all members of the family).

Originally the Association began when there was still suspicion of, and bigotry towards, Catholics. The Catenians have since provided the encouragement and mutual support to empower Catholic men to have the confidence to take their place in business, the professions and public service.

Although we live in more enlightened times, there are new challenges created by the ever increasing secular society in which we live. These include, the rights of the unborn, the right to worship and educate our children in a Christian lifestyle. Most of the laws discriminating against Catholics in the UK have been repealed, although some still exist. The Association offers the chance of deep and lasting friendships, built on the solid foundation of shared faith and values, ensure a member is never alone whatever difficulties he or a member of his family encounters over the years.

Visiting a strange place on business or pleasure or even relocating to another area can be daunting. With a Circle close to most towns and areas in the UK as well as Australia, Malta, Eire, India, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa, you are never alone. You will find that you will have an immediate circle of friends upon whom you can call on for advice and local knowledge.

Other problems which arise from major issues like bereavement, redundancy or serious illness; the every day pressures of bringing up children, caring for elderly relatives and those with special needs. The challenges to one's beliefs in the work place be it in the world of medicine, education or business where corporate employment or trading policies are contrary to justice and respect for human dignity. All these are cushioned by membership in the Catenian Association of Brothers such as you will enjoy.
|
| |
The Association also has much to offer converts, immigrants and others who do not have a ready-made network of Catholic friends. Friendship within the Catenian Association is far deeper than the nodding acquaintance at Mass, which is all that is available to so many.

The regular monthly meeting provides a time for relaxed enjoyment among supporting and faithful friends. We are proudly Catholic and during the Catenian calendar there are many times that Brothers and their families can join in the celebration of the Mass: including President's Sunday, Masses for deceased Brothers and the annual Mass for Vocations to the priesthood and religious life arranged by every Circle around the world.

When a Brother is called by the Lord, his widow and children are looked after by the Association and local circle.

Kenilworth Circle is very proactive in supporting Brothers and their families. All Circles in the Association share the commons goals outlined on this page.
